Thank you guys for watching this small tutorial, and i hope i helped you. to put it another way, the battery may last 25% longer but the task takes 40% longer! So for times when the computer is processing a discrete "task" (i.e. Just looking at the results from, the performance (Geekbench & Xcode tests) goes up by around 35-45% over the three tests with boost enabled, while battery life is only improved by 25%. It doesn't appear to help with battery life in those cases, and in fact seems worse. but manually throttling (by disabling turbo) doesn't seem likely to average out to being faster than automatic throttling (based on temperature), unless the chip itself becomes less power efficient when running at a higher speed, and the control algorithm is poorly written or has a lot of hysteresis.Īlso for long/batch processing tasks, I really think the only metric by which this is "better" is maintaining a lower CPU temperature. However the lower temps will help run those longer process' better (and faster in the long run if computer ends up throttling anyway)Ī MacBook Pro shouldn't be throttling (much, if at all) since it has pretty decent cooling. ![]()
